How to play Mahjong with two players

In two-player Mahjong, you have two types of tiles, for a total of 64 tiles. The first is called the “Man” tiles, numbered from 1 to 9, for a total of 36 cards. The second type is “honor” tiles, including wind cards: east, south, west, and north. Each card appears four times, with a total of 16 cards. Let’s not forget about the dragon tiles: red, green and white, which also appear four times, so there are 12 tiles in total.

After dealing the tiles, both you and your opponent take turns drawing and discarding tiles. And you can form chow, pong, and kong. The first player to complete a full hand is the winner.

So, how do you win? 🤔

Well, to come out on top, your hand has to meet specific tile combinations. You can win by drawing the winning tile yourself (self-draw), or by grabbing a discarded tile from your opponent. The basic winning combination consists of four sets of consecutive tiles and one pair of matching tiles.
